"Women's culture will not be a rehash of male culture. I am looking forward to the time when we will see lesbian medical centers such as Dyke 9 in N.Y.; lesbian health workers, restaurants, and so on. The key lies in the support we extend each other."

A Workshop Early Saturday morning three workshops convened: "Racial and Ethnic Minority Gays," "Women and Politics," and "Socialism and Gays." This reporter attended the latter.

socialists developed an attitude against gays: "In pre-Nazi Germany the Social Democrats (a leftist organization) worked diligently to repeal 175 antisodomy laws on the books. Their efforts, however, were reversed by the Nazis who soon. took power. Nazi leader SS Leader Green was known by many as a homosexual, though he was not affected by Nazi antigay sentiment."

revolution

"When the succeeded in the Soviet Union, Lenin saw to it that all laws against gays were abolished. However when Stalin came to power, such laws were reinstated. Many communists during WWII pointed a finger at Nazi leader Green and said all homosexuals were fascist."

"Historically gays have always been used as a political tool by both the left and right. Thus we often have seen a perversion of socialist (and other) ideology when it comes to gays. This is something gays have a responsibility to prevent in the future."

A participant who recently visited Cuba reflected he felt the Communist Party there is on a machismo power trip that oppresses both women and gays. Cubans forget, he said, that many gay artists and others

supported Batista's overthrow. The speaker stressed that all gays throughout the world should decry oppression of gays anywhere. He cited specifically film-maker Panov in the Soviet Union who was jailed for six years simply because of his homosexuality. (Write Amnesty International to register a protest).

A member of the Socialist Worker's Party said emphatically, "Gays can and will be accepted in the Revolution.

We must remember that Cuba and the Soviet Union don't have an abundance of material goods which distorts the value system. Our goal should be to get rid of the bureaucrats."
